DARK SKIES ANYBODY?
Protecting Our Dark Skies Starts With You

Good Morning, North Valleys!
Did you enjoy our beautiful dark sky last night?
Have you ever wondered whether future development could change what we see above us?
If preserving the dark skies in our community matters to you, there is an important new Dark Sky initiative underway through the County—and this time, your participation can make a real difference.
After years of advocating for this issue, I’m encouraged to see the County listening to concerns raised by residents and community members. The goal is to develop thoughtful, sensible guidelines for future development that help protect our dark skies while still allowing our community to grow.
Now, They Need Your Help
Starting this week—and for one week only—the public is being invited to participate in the initiative’s data-collection process.
This is an opportunity for residents to provide real, on-the-ground information about our nighttime environment. The more residents who participate, the stronger and more representative the data will be. That information can help the County better understand our current nighttime environment and why protecting our dark skies matters.
Here's How You Can Help
If you care about keeping our nights dark, now is the time to get involved.
Please:
Sign up to participate
Complete the required training
Get outside this week and collect samples
Take as many samples as you are able to—every sample helps
Encourage your neighbors, friends, and family to participate as well
The more people who contribute data from throughout our community, the better picture we can provide of the dark-sky conditions we value today.
This is a unique opportunity to have a direct voice in the process and help inform decisions about how our community develops in the future.
If you value our dark skies, please take a few minutes to participate.
More information on how to sign up and participate is coming. Please sign up for the details, complete the training, and get out there this week.
Let's make sure our voices—and our night sky—count.
Thank you for helping protect one of the things that makes the North Valleys such a special place to live.
